How it works
Set up your profile: pick an archetype, fill out your stats, and write your bio like the lore it is. Swipe through the feed, and when someone really catches your eye, send them a Spark. It's a little more than a like, a little less than a love letter, and it lets them know you mean it. Mutual match? You both get an icebreaker quest before chat unlocks, so the first message is never awkward. The connection builds before you even say hello.
The Community Board
Matches are just the beginning. The Board is where the community lives. Post a game session looking for players, put out an open invite to a party, announce an event, or share a bulletin with anyone who'll read it. What is Session Zero?
Session Zero is a dating app for tabletop gamers and anyone who would rather build a character than fill out a resume. Instead of a profile with your job title and hometown, you pick one of twelve archetypes, set six personality stats, choose a species, and design your own card. Matching weighs that whole character, not just photos and distance.
Do I have to play D&D to use it?
No. The app borrows the language of tabletop games because that framing is more fun and more honest than a questionnaire, but you do not need to know a single rule. If you have never touched a set of dice and just like the idea of being a character instead of a resume, you are exactly who this is for.
How is it different from other dating apps?
Three things. Your profile is a character sheet you actually design, so no two look alike. Compatibility is scored on personality stats and archetype, not proximity alone. And when you match, chat stays locked until you both answer an icebreaker quest, so conversations never start with "hey" and die there.
Is Session Zero free?
Yes, and the free tier is genuinely usable: ten likes a day, unlimited messaging, quests, and full access to the community board. There are no ads, and your data is never sold. The paid tier, Archmage, adds unlimited likes, advanced filters, more Sparks, and the full card customization palette if and when you want it. It is $14.99 a month, $69.99 for six months, or $119.99 a year.
Is Session Zero poly and ENM friendly?
Yes, by design rather than as an afterthought. You state your relationship structure on your character sheet and filter by it, whether you are monogamous, polyamorous, in an open relationship, or somewhere you would rather describe yourself. The community skews toward people who think communication and consent are genuinely attractive.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Session Zero runs in any browser, so you can start playing immediately. On a phone you can add it to your home screen and it opens full screen like a native app. iPhone and Android versions are on the way.
Where is Session Zero available?
The United States, starting in Philadelphia. Dating apps only work when there are real people nearby, so we are building density city by city rather than launching everywhere at once and leaving everyone in an empty room. You can still sign up anywhere in the US and set your range to anywhere.
How old do you have to be?
Eighteen or older. You confirm your age when you build your character, and the 18+ floor is enforced on our servers, not just in the app. We do not use ID or document checks, so if you ever see someone who should not be here, report them and we will act on it.
